Public Notice
Wye Marsh Management Plan Development

Wye Marsh Land Use Management Plan
The Open House was a success but more input is needed!

Wye Marsh would like to extend a thank you to all the members of the public that attended the Management Plan Open House on November the 12th, 2007 and provided input into the planning process.  Comments collected from the Open House will help direct the management goals of land use and land protection.

Key issues raised at the Open House:

  1. Forestry – Red Pine plantations currently not managed;
  2. Risk Management – A plan for possible threats of the future (contaminants);
  3. Hunting and ATV use by hunters;
  4. Illegal access prevention;
  5. Increase the Management Plan committee to include a land owner rep, tourism rep, and education specialist.

To provide input and/or comments please email: stewardship@wyemarsh.com

Management Plan Goal:

To create an integrated management strategy ensuring the long term protection of the natural heritage of the Wye Marsh (PWA and NWA), while providing low impact educational, recreational and research opportunities to maintain biodiversity and benefit present and future generations.

 Management Plan Objectives:

  1. Ensure a management strategy is developed in conjunction with all user groups to provide for the long term health of various ecosystems;
  2. Establish an integrated resource management plan balancing the needs of future users with the need to ensure ecological resource sustainability;
  3. To evaluate compatibility of user groups with environmental protection;
  4. To outline the Wye Marsh environmental and constitutional values; and,
  5. To outline management role partnerships.
  6. Ensure financial sustainability of the Wye Marsh;

Stay posted for future date in spring 2008 for draft review

Wye Marsh Management Plan

The Land Use Management Plan is being developed in conjunction with representatives from various groups including the Town of Midland, the Township of Tay, and the Township of Tiny, Ministry of Natural Resources, Canadian Wildlife Services, Friends of the Wye Marsh, Ducks Unlimited Canada, Ontario Provincial Police, Severn Sound Environmental Association, skilled volunteers, and Valley Watch.

Public consultation is an important part of the future of the lands currently managed by Wye Marsh and the development of the Management Plan.  Friends of the Wye Marsh is asking for comments and input towards the development of the Land Use Management Plan from members of the general public.  Though the Open House has passed, the Management Plan Project Team is continuing to collect comments from the public and shareholders.

To provide input and/or comments please email: stewardship@wyemarsh.com
