Junior Naturalist Program

The Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre is committed to connecting people to nature and promoting an understanding of the vital role that wetlands play within the environment.  It is through the development of strong community relationships that we strive to engage youth through both educational programs and stewardship initiatives.

We would like to invite youth between the ages of 12-16 to apply to our Junior Naturalist Program - a mentoring system where young individuals interested in the nature can increase their knowledge about the environment. 

Junior Naturalists will gain these valuable experiences through not only working closely with experienced Wye Marsh Naturalists, but also through contributing to numerous environmental projects and initiatives. 

As a member of this program you will be required to commit to approximately 1-2 days a week at the Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre, and will have the following opportunities:

• Learn ecological principles and how to interpret them
• Care for our captive reptiles and amphibians
• Assist with educational group programs
• Help out with day camp operations
• Support staff with daily public programming, including canoeing and kayaking tours
• Participate in special projects and events
• Log volunteer hours towards the Ontario Secondary School volunteer time requirements. 

Applications for Summer 2011 will be accepted in Spring 2011.
