The World Around Us

Science and Technology, The Arts

Half day program: Students will have the opportunity to explore
a wetland focussing on the differences between living and nonliving
things. During a guided hike, they will investigate differences
between habitats while enjoying all the sights and sounds of the
marsh. An interactive game will allow students to demonstrate the
concept of living or non-living while getting up close to a live
snake. Your visit will end with a wildlife craft to take home.
Full day program: In addition to the half day program, students
will become insect detectives as they explore the bugs and worms
that live on the forest floor. Students will be encouraged to
investigate the forest through a micro-hike and an interactive story.
A game will finish their visit by exploring migration and the
importance of the marsh.

Grade One

Your Five Senses

Science & Technology: Life Systems: Characteristics
and Needs of Living Things, The Arts – Music

Half day program: Students will classify characteristics of
animals and plants by using the five senses. Smell cedar, taste
maple syrup, feel the bark of different trees, listen to the calls of the
birds and see the many different wildlife species that call the Wye
Marsh home. Along the nature trail we will compare local
habitats, watch for signs of wildlife, and play an interactive game
adopting and examining a tree.
Full day program: In addition to the half day program, students
will have an opportunity to take part in the Animal Tracking Game
using the 5 senses to explore nature as the animals see it. Students
will also have the opportunity to form their own “Wild Choir”,
simulating the sounds of the marsh, and create a craft to take
home.

Grade Two

interactive story and a fun dress-up activity.
Full day program: In addition to the half day program, students
